i want to remember...
- adam has started saying BUBBLE and BUBBLES. he says it often, but definitely when he sees bubbles, like in the bath.
- adam FINALLY says otis, in addition to dog woof woof. almost never dog without a woof woof. every animal is a DAWG woof woof. i think he forgot that he knew COW mooooo first.
- adam's teachers told me that when another kid cries, he rubs their back and tries to comfort. and, sometimes i see him bring otis' bone to him and stick it in otis' mouth.
- adam now definitely knows when he, ahem, cuts the cheese and looks my way and giggles every time. he also giggles when anyone else in our house (read: daddy!) does this. more and more signs that potty training is on the horizon.
- at bed time, we read to adam and we used to rock him awhile before saying nite nite and putting him in his crib. now, as soon as the book is over, adam points to his crib and says NITE NITE emphatically and repeatedly until we put him there. baby no more! without fail every night he gives me a kiss on the cheek before i put him down. such a sweet heart.
- in the mornings, after we put on coat and hat, adam walks to the door and say BYE BYE. he knows we're outta here!
- i've started to get adam in on the evening toy clean up. i sing a clean up song and adam helps me pick up the toys and carry them to his room to put the toys away. he is learning to pick up and carry the toys to his toy box. i am SO proud of this accomplishment and proud of myself for teaching him to take care of his own things.

la la la la life!

a good view of my barber work! not too bad, if i do say so myself, for my first ever haircut. it was time for the mullet to go.
brusha brusha!
pre bath.
sketti.
obsessed with backin' it up and sitting on anything available, including the dog.

now that adam is 16 months old, i feel like we have a new little life development almost daily and it's hard to keep everything together here!
adam is running and loves to climb. his new favorite place to go is the soft playroom at a rec center in our town. there are a ton of places to climb, slide, and crawl through in this big room. the best part is that this has been a daddy-adam activity only so far! special bonding time, ball pit and padded tunnels... what's not to love?!
adam says so many words and tries to say more that don't quite come out perfectly but are funny to hear. he definitely imitates lots of things we do, which is frightening to me! recently, we were eating dinner and our dog otis was sniffing around us. so eric yelled GO! and pointed at the dog. immediately after, adam yelled GO! and pointed exactly the same way eric did. it was hilarious and shocking at the same time.
adam has made some friends at school. today, when i arrived to pick him up, he was still eating lunch so i chatted with his teachers for a minute. they told me that they call a little girl in the class Bri Bri now b/c that's what adam calls her (her name is actually Briana). before we left, they asked him, Where's Bri Bri? and he walked up to her and touched her and said Bri Bri! clear as day. he also said Malcy for a little boy named Malcom in his room and touched him too. i have never heard him say ANYONE's name (or nick name...?) other than mommy and daddy (ok, and big bird and abby), so i found this to be so special.
speaking of sesame street characters, adam continues to be obsessed with sesame street books. we dvr the show and allow him to watch it OCCASIONALLY. to be honest, he only cares about the show for about 5 minutes before i find him digging through my purse, splashing in the dog's bowl, climbing on the couch, calling someone on my blackberry or asking for a "nack" (snack). ha!
i think adam hit a growth spurt last weekend. i have no idea when kids go through these past 1 year old, but last weekend he wouldn't nap at ALL and clothes that fit just dandy over christmas are now snug and short. in fact, today, his calves are exposed in his pants, just above his socks, and his shirt would barely pull over his big noggin. i was really hoping that his winter clothes would last all season, but we might have to look for a few more pants and shirts to get us through the season. growing growing growing.
when adam is "bad" it is hard for us to keep our faces straight sometimes. his little "serious" expression is so exaggerated and funny. and sometimes, the things he does ARE funny to us. we are truly working on this, along with cleaning up our potty mouths. the day adam's teachers tell me he has said some curse word will be the day i die of embarrassment!

today adam surprised me! i left him for a moment to use the restroom and came back to the living room to find him up in our big chair, holding my phone saying HI HI HI! i almost died, and not because of the phone... i had no idea he could climb up on the furniture! we've seen him try, but haven't seen him accomplish this yet. i was completely shocked.
later, he came to find me in the kitchen with my blackberry against his face, again saying HI HI HI into it. hilarious kid! i'm going to have to hide that thing higher b/c who knows who he might call one of these days. we got him a toy phone for christmas and ever since he has been more and more interested in the toy phone AND the real phone.
this weekend adam also said pee-pee and is interested in what we "do" when we leave to go to the bathroom, so hopefully in a few months we can get a potty and start talking about it more. can't get here soon enough! :)
adam has also started saying a few other words, including BABY. anytime he sees a baby-- many that, to me, look just about his own age, ha!-- he points and says BABY BABY BABY. i have shown him photos of his own self on our laptop before and told him BABY. now anytime i am on the computer, he points at the screen and asks BABY?? haha. (no new babies coming to our family yet, either, people. no idea why he is suddenly into this word...!) we have been trying to get him to say ELMO-- he's obsessed with all sesame street books/characters and dances and cheers and claps anytime we put on the tv show-- but he won't say ELMO. he does say ABBY (another little character that didn't exist when i was a kid...). also, it was funny b/c in one of his sesame street books there is the alphabet. beside the O is OCTOPUS. eric asked him to say OCTOPUS and he says OCTAPAKA. he's been saying it all weekend anytime we ask for OCTOPUS, cracking us up.
when we ask he points now to belly, nose, mouth, peepee, and ears. and, he says "NOSE" (sounds more like NYA) when he points to his nose or our noses. he's also saying NITE NITE and pointing to his crib at night when we're done with our bedtime stories. and everynight, as i am putting him in his crib, he gives me a goodnight kiss. precious.
