check up

adam had his 9 month visit with the pediatrician today. would you believe they only had ONE june appointment available with our doc? yeah, nuts. anyhow...

it went well, as i suspected. he received one vaccine and screamed appropriately, but chilled out soon after. they also pricked his toe and took blood for an anemia test (he isn't) and the kid never even flinched. i don't even think he noticed that they were doing anything at all.

he weighs a whopping 21 lbs, which explains why the muscles in my right arm are so disproportionately buff! you should see me in yoga classes now.... my right arm holds strong while my left arm wiggles like the spaghetti it has become. but carrying him on the left feels like brushing my teeth with my left hand-- just wrong! i guess i need to get over that, since i'm guessing he isn't going to get any smaller!

speaking of left arms, adam is still using mostly his left hand and eating exclusively with his left hand (he uses his right hand to feed the dog while he uses his left to feed himself...). i asked if this meant he would be a lefty and she said it's still too early to tell. we'll have to wait and see!

adam is 30 inches long, meaning he grew 9 inches in 9 months. can you imagine?? i'd be over 6 feet tall by next spring. woooo.

adam is also finally getting a little baby tooth. this makes me sad b/c he is looking and acting more like a little boy every day, less and less like my little BABY. teeth are only going to be another reminder that he is getting bigger and older. plus, i'll likely never see his little toothless grin again (hopefully i teach him to brush well so that he still has all his teeth when his dear ol' mama passes on...!). it is his left, bottom tooth. you can see the white that has poked through and feel it too. adam's the only little person in his daycare class to not have a tooth yet.... but...

that hasn't stopped him from being a champ eater! he is eating whatever we eat when home. buh bye purees and baby food once and for all. my processor is going to be lonely!

overall it was a great visit and the doc was very pleased with our sweet little guy.

some cool recent things....

adam knows a couple words. we already knew he knew his name, but i am pretty certain he knows daddy and otis, since when i say them he looks for them. and i am definitely certain he knows LIGHT. he's been obsessed with lights since he was born, just like his cousin cory was/is. now when we're anywhere, if i say LIGHT he will twist and turn and look up until he finds it... bedroom, kitchen, parking lot, doctor's office. he loooooves LIGHT and smiles when you turn it on for him.

he has moved from dadadada to saying dad. i am about 99 percent sure he says dada and knows who that is. this morning, before the dr. visit, eric and i had him in our bed playing with us. he screamed DADA and leaped from his knees onto eric's belly. it was the sweetest thing ever.

adam crawl-chases me around the living room. this is my favorite game to play with him in the evenings. he laughs when we chase a toy together.

adam also waves hello, which is so fun for us. i have it on video and will upload to our flickr site very soon..!
(photo taken with my blackberry, so quality is not so great...!)
