what a joyful day adam and i shared today. he is quite a pleasant date!
we spent our morning at home, eating, napping, coffee drinking (me) and bottle drinking (him). during his morning nap, i made our plans for the afternoon, wrote out all my lists, and when he woke up we hit the road.
(side note, for those of you who haven't figured this out now, i work a compressed work week, allowing me to have a special day off on fridays with adam!)
first stop, the library. i had a LONG list of books i wanted to check out. and adam had never been there, so i knew he'd enjoy all the new sights, smells and faces. i was right-- he gawked around and flirted with all the old ladies who populate the library in the middle of the day, and i checked out about 6000 books.
next stop, a baby boutique in old town. mr. adam has his six month bday coming up and i wanted to get him something super cute for some photos i have scheduled. i think we found what we were looking for, so the trip was a success. this store we went to also has SO many toys and neat little things for children. it was my first time wearing adam in the bjorn facing outward-- eric has, but i have not-- and he was definitely mesmerized by all the colorful toys and books. while in old town, we made a pitstop to visit with the owner of the store above which i teach my yoga class. it was adam's first time meeting her, so he made a new friend!
last stop, we scooted over to whole foods and got our groceries for the week. i got lots of fresh, organic veggies and fruits to puree for adam.
tonight, i made more carrots. i made squash, which will be new for adam. i made pears. and lastly, i made apples. one thing learned-- i probably won't make apples again. first of all, i had to get the peels off. second, i had to bake them to soften them up before i pureed them. and then, when i pureed five apples, it only yielded 3 cubes of food. :( all that work for such little payout! not to mention, five apples costs more than, say, five squashes or a bunch of carrots. three yellow sqaushes tonight yielded a whole tray of cubes! so i think from now on, we'll be buying jarred organic apples. (for the record, i also made pesto and hummus tonight while i had the processor down and out, for eric and me. wooo hooo!)
after all that processing and running around town, adam and i are both pooped out. he's konked out in his crib and i'm relaxing too. but, again, no fussing, no crying all day! adam was pleasant and friendly, smiling at new friends, and playing with his toys while i shopped. he never slept or got cranky, just seemed happy to take in the sights and spend time together. phew!
tonight, he did do something new, however... as i put him in his crib for his nap, as i walked out of the room, he turned his head and rolled up on his side to see me behind him and watched me walk away, and then started crying. he's NEVER turned to watch me go and started to panic as i left before. and a few days ago, i put him in his exersaucer, which he loves. he was perfectly happy, and then as i walked out of the room (probably to get more coffee or hit the bathroom...), adam started to cry, big sad tears and sad cry. when i came back, he chilled. i think it's still early for separation anxiety? but i wonder if this is the beginning...? lord, i hope not...!
